Privacy Policy

1. What we collect

Account details you give us directly: name, email, and for Tutors, profile information like subjects, experience, and rate. For Students, the details of what you're requesting help with.

Your approximate or precise location: a city or address you give us, or, when you have not given one, the city your connection points to. It is used to match you with nearby tutors and to rank tutors near you first. See the location section below for exactly when precision changes.

How you use the platform (the requests you post, the tutors you favorite or message, how tutors respond), used to improve the matches you and others see.

Payment details, handled by our payment provider. Tutoro does not store your full card number.

2. How we use it

To operate the marketplace: matching requests to tutors, showing profiles, processing payments, and sending notifications about your requests, applications, and sessions.

To keep the platform safe: reviewing verification documents a Tutor submits, and looking into disputes or reports when they're raised.

3. Location precision

For an in-person request, a Tutor only ever sees an approximate area (never your exact address) until you book and pay for a session with them. Your exact address is never shown to a Tutor you haven't booked with.

4. Local, personalized matching

We are starting in South Surrey and Metro Vancouver, and we use where you are, together with your profile and activity, to personalize matching behind the scenes: which tutors are suggested to you, in what order, and which requests tutors see first. Nearby tutors are ranked ahead of distant ones.

This uses only an approximate point (the centre of your city or neighbourhood, or the location of your request), never your exact address, and it is never shown to another user. If you have not given us a city, we may fill it in from the city your connection points to; you can change or clear it in your settings.

You can turn off using your location to rank tutors and greet you at any time under Settings > Location. Doing so does not change the location you choose to put on a request.

5. Who we share it with

The other party in a match: a Tutor sees what a Student includes in their request; a Student sees what a Tutor includes in their application and profile.

Service providers we rely on to run the platform (payment processing, email delivery, and hosting), only to the extent needed to provide that service.

We don't sell your personal information.

6. Your choices

You can update most of your profile information directly from your account settings. You can request that we delete your account; some records (like past session and payment history) may be retained where we're required to keep them.

We may update this policy as the platform changes. We'll post the current version here.
